Parkinson’s Law

Work expands to fill available time.

This is a phenomenon that explains why things almost never get done ahead of time. If a deadline is far away, people will slow down, add work, improve quality, or otherwise stretch out the work until the deadline. This is why frameworks like Agile and Scrum are useful for development. Keep dev cycles short and focused on just a few things. Keep the target timeline tight, but realistic.
