Herzberg’s 2-Factor Theory
Hygiene and motivators affect performance.
Employees respond to hygiene and motivators. Hygiene factors are basic needs like pay, status, job security, work conditions, and benefits. If basic hygiene factors aren’t fulfilled, successful motivation is virtually impossible. Motivators are intrinsic to the job like challenging work, responsibility, involvement in decision-making and opportunity to make an impact. Work on fulfilling hygiene factors first before focusing on motivators.
