Exponential Effects of Scope Creep

How scope creep leads to exponential increases in dev time.

Scope creep has a lot of negative effects on development, but one you might not consider is exponential growth of your game’s development timeline. As you add marginally more to a game, often those new additions take more time to add. This is because the more you add, the more time you have to spend integrating and polishing them so everything works nice together.

This is a problem in the development of large games like AAA titles. They often have so many features that a ridiculous amount of time is spent in integration and inter-system performance. So adding one additional feature takes more and more time, the more features you add (exponential growth). Be careful with scope creep folks!
