Curse of Knowledge

Inability to recognize that others do not have the same level of knowledge.

Have you ever met that person that talks about stuff way over your head, but thinks you understand exactly what they are talking about? That’s the curse of knowledge. When we are knowledgeable in an area, it becomes quite difficult to be fully aware of just how much we know. It’s not like we have an internal stat system that shows our skill level in different subjects, as a frame of reference. So, unless we frequently interact with people of lower skill level and converse about that subject, we become conditioned to talk about topics at a high level.
